Wheal Jane - award winner

Wheal Jane was proud to host a visit from Lord Smith, Chairman of the Environment Agency during his recent visit ahead of the formal awarding of the Green Apple Award for works undertaken to return the Wheal Jane pilot passive treatment plant to nature in the Carnon Valley.  Lord Smith and his team were impressed with the improvements, maintenance and restoration works at Wheal Jane - still a busy site, providing employment and environmental expertise within the region - that have gathered pace in the years since mining ceased at the site.

Treatment Plant - pilot scheme decommissioning

We are working with the Environment Agency in the decommissioning of the Wheal Jane Pilot Passive Treatment Plant Decommissioning Scheme.
The works involve the removal of settled metal-bearing sediment, concrete structures, removal and re-planting of reed beds and the phased
restoration and landscaping of the valley.
